Board of Visitors: The National Perspective
When the University announced in January that a Board of Visitors would be assessing the institution and its future from a national perspective, it knew not to expect a mere rubber stamp from a group of prominent people.
"Many universities have boards of visitors to be cheerleaders, but this board provided significant and candid critical analysis," said Stephen R. Portch, the chairman emeritus of the University System of Georgia who served as the board chair. "The quality of the Board was extraordinary, commanding diversity of experience and thought and terrific intellectual capital. All members contributed mightily."
"I am immensely grateful for the work done by
the Board of Visitors," said Hall. "Throughout
the process, they were insightful, asked hard
questions and pulled no punches. And that's what
we were looking for. I believe that these
distinguished individuals would now cite the
University at Albany as an institution on the
move — a place that is making informed choices
to meet the challenges of the future."
