The New York Giants shocked the world when they defeated the previously unbeaten New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLII. Now, the Giants will begin their quest to defend their NFL Championship with the start of training camp at UAlbany, beginning July 25.After Giants receiver Plaxico Burress snared quarterback Eli Manning's pass for the game-winning touchdown, the Capital Region immediately began gearing up for the team's return to campus.
In the spring, UAlbany Interim President George M. Philip and Vice President for Athletics Administration Lee McElroy joined Albany Mayor and No. 1 Giants fan Jerry Jennings at a special ceremony commemorating the Giants' monumental victory
Expectations are high for record-setting crowds at training camp following the Giants' Cinderella season. Attendance is expected to break the all-time camp record of 45,040 set in 2004.
Fans will have the opportunity to see the likes of Super Bowl MVP Manning, Pro Bowl defensive end Osi Umenyiora, as well as wide receiver David Tyree, whose one-handed catch from Manning became the signature play of the Giants' Super Bowl Win.
Camp concludes on August 17th, when the Giants will gear up for the regular season with the hopes of repeating as Super Bowl champions.
