ALBANY, N.Y. (January 23, 2008) -- The University at Albany will host the "Friends" exhibit, a memorial to young people whose lives have been lost to automobile accidents involving drunk drivers. The exhibit, which highlights the lives of four Colgate University students who died in an alcohol-related accident in November of 2000, is designed to underscore how quickly lives of those involved in DWI tragedies, as well as the lives of family and friends of victims, are lost or changed. The exhibit, subtitled "One Day. One Wrong Turn," highlights the individual histories of the victims -- prior to the crash -- through photos, interviews of victims' friends and families, and personal possessions, including books, trophies, and stuffed animals. Also displayed are pictures of the fatal crash, police documents and a timeline tracing the events of the victims' last day, including a detailed account of the crash.
The exhibit will also include a section devoted to Kathleen Campion, a UAlbany student whose life was tragically cut short by a drunk driver in 1989.
"Friends: One Day. One Wrong Turn" will be on display in the Uptown Campus's Campus Center first floor Patroon Lounge from Friday, Jan. 25 through Friday, March 7. The exhibit will be open Monday through Friday 9 a.m.-9 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday 11 a.m.-9 p.m.
Editor's Note: Media are invited to join Interim President George M. Philip and other University officials for an opening reception, Friday, Jan. 25 at 1:30 p.m. in the first-floor Patroon Lounge, Campus Center.
