Sue Johanson Headlines UAlbany's Sexuality Week 2008

ALBANY, N.Y. (February 5, 2008) -- Renowned sex expert and Oxygen Network host Sue Johanson and nationally-acclaimed author Dr. Marty Klein will discuss current sexuality issues facing college-age students. The event will take place at 8 p.m. Feb. 12 in the Campus Center Ballroom as part of the University at Albany's Sexuality Week 2008.

In its 25th year, UAlbany's Sexuality Week continues to bring together college students, faculty and staff to discuss critical issues and concerns related to sexual health, including HIV/AIDS, relationships, identity, and reproductive health. The week-long series of programs for Sexuality Week feature exhibits, lectures, workshops and guest speakers. Coordinated by the Middle Earth Peer Assistance Program of the University Counseling Center and funded by the Student Association, Sexuality Week will be presented by experts with the goal of encouraging learning, discussions and critical thinking.

"UAlbany is one of the first institutions in the country to have devoted programming and education to students using a theme week on this topic. Now, 25 years later, it continues to help meet the needs of our students as well as provide a retrospective and prospective look at the issues," said Dolores Cimini, director of the Middle Earth Peer Assistance Program and assistant director for prevention and program evaluation at the University Counseling Center.

Exhibits include the history of Sexuality Week at the University Main Library, which features displays of past programs, books and photographs signed by previous keynote speakers, newspaper articles, and other memorabilia. The University Bookstore will host a book exhibit on the topic of sexuality, including works authored by UAlbany faculty. In addition, Project SHAPE: Sexual Health And Peer Education, will be hosting exhibits on related topics in the campus center lobby from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. February 3-14.

Speaking to approximately 30,000 students a year, Johanson is the most popular sex educator in Canada and has been broadening the scope of her health messages by speaking to colleges and universities in the United States. In the fall of 2002, she became the hostess of the Oxygen Network's "Talk Sex With Sue." Johanson, who began her media career on Toronto's Q107 radio with her call-in advice show, is also a writer, columnist and book author.

Klein, a licensed marriage and family counselor and sex therapist, has aimed his entire career toward telling the truth about sexuality, helping people feel sexually adequate and powerful, and supporting the healthy sexual expression and exploration of women and men. He has written over 100 articles and is the author of five books, including Ask Me Anything: Dr. Klein Answers the Sex Questions You'd Love To Ask. He has also published his award-winning blog, Sexual Intelligence, for eight years.
