AUTISM -- THE EPIDEMIC: According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, autism affects one in every 150 children in the U.S., and 1 in every 94 boys. Despite the recent upsurge in the disorder -- and related disorders -- there remains a lot of ignorance about the subject. UAlbany's Kristin Christodulu, director of the Center for Autism and Related Disabilities, offers insight into research, education, and training on topics associated with autism spectrum disorders, sleep disturbances, challenging behavior, parenting, and inclusion. She has extensive clinical and research experience working with children and adults with developmental disabilities.
