UAlbany Announces New Signature Ice Cream

ALBANY, N.Y. (February 2, 2009) -- Taste buds have tested and attest to deliciousness of the new UAlbany signature ice cream UA U KNOW U WANT SOME. After a week of voting, the black raspberry ice cream with French vanilla swirl and chocolate chunks was the winning entry of the campus-wide naming competition.

UAlbany students suggested many different names for the new ice cream; the Albany Student Dining Advisory Committee (ASDAC) picked the top four names, and then it was up to a student vote to select the winner. The top vote-getter was coined by sophomore Amanda McAlpine of Dix Hills, N.Y.

McAlpine, an accounting major, was enjoying a laugh with friends when she came up with the name, but is proud nonetheless. She added, "I think the flavor tastes really great."
 
McAlpine's winning entry beat out names like The Big Purple Growl, Your Swirl�d Within Reach, and Great Dane Tracks.

University Auxiliary Services and Chartwells teamed up with the Gilette Creamery to come up with a flavor that represented the University. They brought in the school�s colors � purple and gold � to add a signature element to the ice cream. 

UA U KNOW U WANT SOME replaces Great DANEgerous Swirl as UAlbany�s signature ice cream after a switch in suppliers. Great DANEgerous Swirl was released in 2004.
