Contact: Karl Luntta (518) 437-4980

ALBANY, N.Y. (August 20, 2003) -- The University at Albany's Center for Jewish Studies has established a new research associate program to advance the work of scholars and researchers who might benefit from the center's resources. The Research Associate Program extends the boundaries of the center while broadening opportunities for academic work at the University.

Starting this academic year, research associates will be appointed annually to two-year terms, with the possibility of renewal. Associates will be required to present one public lecture per semester on a topic stemming from their research, participate in the center's public activities, and may also assist students working on research projects related to their area of expertise.

According to Mark Raider, director of the Center for Jewish Studies, "The Research Associate Program is an excellent opportunity to support important Jewish scholarship in the Capital Region. We're looking forward to supporting researchers from different walks of the academy and Jewish life."

The Executive Committee of the centers Academic Council administers the Research Associate Program. For more information or to submit an application (due by Sept. 15), contact Mark Raider at 442-8039 or [email protected] <mailto:[email protected]> or visit www.albany.edu/jewishstudies https://www.albany.edu/jewishstudies.

Established in 1844 and designated a center of the State University of New York in 1962, the University at Albany's broad mission of excellence in undergraduate and graduate education, research and public service engages 17,000 diverse students in eight degree-granting schools and colleges. The University is engaged in a $500 million fundraising campaign, the most ambitious in its history, with the goal of placing it among the nation's top 30 public research universities by the end of the decade.
