ALBANY,
N.Y. (December 12, 2003) -- Donna Bellino, a senior at the
University at Albany, has been awarded a prestigious Stanley
Fink Legislative Internship. Supported by an initial grant
from the Bell-Atlantic Foundation, UAlbany established the
legislative internship in memory of the late Fink, former
speaker of the New York Assembly. The full semester internship
carries a $5,000 scholarship.
Bellino, from Brewster, N.Y., is pursuing a dual major in
criminal justice and psychology with the hope of attending
graduate school to study criminal justice or industrial/organizational
psychology. During the summer, she is a volunteer counselor
at the Hole in the Wall Gang Camp in Connecticut. The camp
assists seriously ill children in participating in a sleep-away
camp experience.
To be eligible for the award, a student must meet academic
requirements for the Dean's list and have earned at least
56 academic credits at UAlbany. Bellino has a grade point
average of 3.83. She will begin her internship in the New
York State Assembly in 2004.
