The Miracle Viewing, Lecture
Laura Wittern-Keller, visiting assistant professor of history at the University at Albany and the 2007 New York State Archives Researcher of the Year, will discuss the controversial film, The Miracle (Il Miracolo), during her lecture, "Freedom of the Screen: The Movie that Shocked New York, 1952" on April 7.
The lecture and movie viewing will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Performing Arts Center. The 40-minute film, The Miracle (Il Miracolo), was the subject of a legal battle in which the Supreme Court ruled for the first time that motion pictures, like books and newspapers, were protected under the First Amendment. Hear the story of how The Miracle, directed by Roberto Rossellini, shocked the system and changed the way we see movies today.
The event is sponsored by the Archives Partnership Trust and University at Albany. For reservations, call (518) 474-1228 or e-mail [email protected] .
