"Single Black Female" Opens Off-Broadway
Lisa B. Thompson's play "Single Black Female" opens off-Broadway, running June 10-29 at The Duke on 42nd Street in Manhattan.Thompson is an assistant professor of English at the University at Albany-SUNY, where she teaches courses on African American literature and culture. The play was first produced off-off Broadway in 2006. Anita Gates of The New York Times called "Single Black Female" a "socially significant and very entertaining two-woman show that manages to be simultaneously self-deprecating and proud."
The play's director, Colman Domingo, is acting in the musical "Passing Strange," which is nominated for seven Tony awards.
