Warhol Collection to Debut Oct. 23 at University Art Museum
Andy Warhol: Portraits from the Warhol Photographic Legacy Program will be shown on the main gallery/second floor. The exhibition features 102 original Polaroids and 51 gelatin silver prints from a recent gift to the University Art Collection from The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, in honor of the Foundation's 20th anniversary. The gift comes to the museum through the Andy Warhol Photographic Legacy Program with the goal of providing greater access to this significant yet relatively unknown body of Warhol's artwork.
Also showing is Andy Warhol: Outer and Inner Space, Warhol's pioneering double-screen film of Edie Sedgwick in a dialogue with her own videotaped image, considered to be a masterpiece of video art. First shown in 1966 and made before the term even existed, Outer and Inner Space has informed video art from the 1970s on.
Professor Emerita of Art History Roberta Bernstein, a former assistant to Warhol, will give a talk on Andy Warhol, Myth and Reality, on Tuesday, Dec. 2, at 7 p.m.
From Oct. 23 on, a third exhibition, Look This Way: Portraits from the University at Albany Fine Art Collections will also be shown in the main gallery on the first floor. Look This Way features works by Larry Clark, Lucien Clergue, Jerome Liebling, Mary Ellen Mark, Helmut Newton, and Edward Steichen, among others.
