UAlbany Maintains AACSB Honors in Business and Accounting
The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business has granted the School of Business maintenance of accreditation after a successful peer review.
“We are very proud of the strides we have made on all fronts – new programs, student success, alumni engagement, and faculty and staff productivity. The extension of accreditation by AACSB is also a signal to us that our peers also recognize our commitment to rigorous quality in business education, said Dean Nilanjan Sen.
UAlbany transitioned its business education program to a traditional school of business in the 1960s. The school has maintained its AACSB accreditation since it was first granted in 1974, and was the first in the world to be recognized by AACSB at both the graduate and undergraduate levels.
According to AACSB, 882 institutions across 57 countries and territories have earned AACSB accreditation in business. Furthermore, 189 institutions maintain supplemental AACSB accreditation for their accounting programs.
Fewer than 6% of the world's schools offering business degree programs hold AACSB business accreditation. Fewer than 2% of the world's schools offering business degree programs hold supplemental AACSB accounting accreditation.
Initial recognition is a three to seven-year process involving meticulous review during which schools implement a plan to meet regularly evolving AACSB standards, including stringent faculty criteria. Thereafter, accredited schools must complete an extensive peer review every five years to maintain accreditation.
Founded in 1916, AACSB is the longest serving and largest global accrediting body for business schools, and the gold standard of undergraduate and graduate business education.
