Transfer Engagement
Darlene Poirier -- Transfer Engagement
The Office of Transfer Engagement offers help to all transfer students to navigate and succeed in the University at Albany. Key to success at any university is becoming an active member of the campus community. The Assistant Director for Transfer Engagement offers four Transfer Pathway Programs to help students discover all the opportunities UAlbany has to offer, get engaged, and become socially and academically acclimated to the University. For the 2021-22 academic year, Pathway One is Transfer Communities. There are four being offered to new students who are interested in getting engaged with their peers, faculty and staff in a common interest (Transfer Communities are open to both on-campus students and commuters). Our second Pathway is Challenges for the 21st Century Courses where new transfers can complete a general education requirement together. Pathway Three is our UUNI-99 Engagement Classes which are 0-credit meetings to help new students engage with their peers, faculty and mentors. Finally, our fourth Pathway is our New Student Clubs. We encourage transfer students to select at least ONE of these pathways to have the best chance at doing well their first semester. Students in our pathway programs are more likely to do better academically than those in no other support program. The Assistant Director also serves in an advisory capacity to Tau Sigma, the national honor society specifically for transfer students, and the UA Transfer Network, a mentoring program for transfer students on campus. Additionally, the Assistant Director oversees Transfer Transition Leaders (TTLs) who provide programming opportunities and peer mentorship to new transfer students and commuters.
