Architect and writer David Gersten will be the featured speaker during a University at Albany's College of Arts and Sciences 25th Anniversary celebration event on Tuesday, October 16.

Gersten's talk, “Developing New Ways of Knowing: Education, Art, Space, and Place,” will be held 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, in the University at Albany Performing Arts Center Recital Hall, 1400 Washington Avenue, Albany.Earlier that same day, David GerstenGersten will hold a more informal conversation at 4:15 p.m. in the Standish Room, Science Library, also on the uptown campus.

Gersten is an influential artist, architect, writer, educator, TED speaker, motivational thinker, former Dean of Architecture at Cooper Union, and originator of the concept of “spatial literacy”— an understanding of the profound impact of our surroundings on personal and collective experiences.

In 2013, Gersten founded Arts Letters & Numbers, a nonprofit arts, education, and publishing organization dedicated to creating creative exchanges across a wide range of disciplines including Architecture, Visual Arts, Theatre Arts, Film, Music, Humanities, Sciences, and Social Sciences. The organization is based at The Mill, a repurposed factory in Averill Park that hosts a variety of art installations, immersion workshops and creative happenings.
