Friday, May 4 The New York State Writers Institute closes out an ambitious spring series with a rousing toast to our founder William Kennedy in his 90th year, featuring an intimate evening of reminiscences, video tributes, and appearances by special guests at 7 p.m. Friday, May 4 at Page Hall, 135 Western Avenue, on the University at Albany downtown campus. Featuring The Capital District Youth Pipe Band paying tribute to North Albany’s Irish heritage. Children’s choir from the North Albany Academy (formerly Public School 20 which Bill attended as a child), singing African American and African songs. Video of Bill in conversation with Hunter S. Thompson about their days as journalists in Puerto Rico. Actors Tony Pallone, Colleen Lovett and narrator Ken Screven performing as the gangster Jack "Legs" Diamond and his moll Kiki from Bill’s classic novel, Legs. A singalong of one of Bill’s favorite Frank Sinatra songs led by singer Donna Purnomo. We invite you all to join the fun. A reception with light refreshments to follow.
