This bleak but beautiful love story is set amidst Northern Ireland's Catholic/Protestant conflict. A young Catholic boy falls in love with the widow (played by Helen Mirren) of a policeman, despite his IRA involvement with her husband's murder. Mirren received the Best Actress Award at the 1984 Cannes Film Festival for her role.
