This adaptation of Ken Kesey's novel of the same name reflected society's disillusionment with the establishment during the late 60s and early 1970s. A two-bit loser, played by Jack Nicholson, enters an insane asylum and inspires his fellow patients to assert themselves, much to the displeasure of the strong-willed head nurse, played by Louise Fletcher. CUCKOO'S NEST was only the second film to sweep all the top five Academy Awards.
Ken Kesey will read from and discuss his work on May 1, 2001 at 8:00 p.m. in Page Hall, 135 Western Avenue, UAlbany's Downtown Campus.
