THE GODFATHER II is both sequel and prequel to THE GODFATHER (1972). The film uses a cross-cut narrative to contrast the rise of young Vito Corleone as an immigrant in New York City during the 1910s with the downfall of his son Michael as he strives for power and control in the 1950s. A box office hit, the film won six Oscars including Best Picture, Director, Screenplay, Supporting Actor, Score, and Art Direction.
