Film historians rank this collaborative effort by Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger as one of the finest British films ever made. Engaged to marry a rich industrialist, Joan Webster is a woman who knows where she's going in life. On her way to the wedding, which is to be held on the Isle of Kiloran in northwestern Scotland, Joan meets a handsome young Scottish laird (Livesey) who forces her to rethink her plans. In the 1950s, Paramount used the film as an example of the perfect script, screening it whenever one of the studio's writers became blocked. The film is also noteworthy for its charming images of the Scottish Hebrides.
