Dermot Moran is Professor and Chair of Philosophy at the University College of Dublin, Ireland, where he is the editor of the "International Journal of Philosophical Studies." Trained in medieval and modern philosophy--he is the author of The Philosophy of John Scottus Eriugena published by Cambridge University Press--he is also a frequent commentator on the arts and culture for RTE, the Irish Broadcasting Company. A published poet, Moran has worked in collaboration with such Irish artists as filmmaker Neil Jordan (The Crying Game and Michael Collins) and playwright Frank McGuiness (Someone to Watch Over Me). Moran will speak on "The State of the Arts in Ireland," a subject about which he has an indexical knowledge, immediate experience, and sharp perspective.
