Set in Northern Ireland, ODD MAN OUT was controversial when originally released. The combination of expressionist artistry by director Reed and strong performances result in a film of enduring power some fifty years later. James Mason plays Johnny McQueen, an IRA officer wounded during a botched raid, who becomes the focus of a large scale man-hunt. Mason considered this his best film role.
