STARTUP.COM follows the fortunes of a promising "dotcom" from tech boom to bust. The company, govWorks.com, wins industry awards, raises 60 million dollars, and propels two young entrepreneurs, former childhood friends, to business stardom. In a very short time, however, a changing market, technical problems, a scarcity of venture capital, and bitter quarrels threaten to bring the company to its knees.
Documentary filmmaker Chris Hegedus began collaborating on films with her future husband, D.A. Pennebaker, in 1975. As a team they are responsible for such noteworthy documentaries as TOWN BLOODY HALL (1979), THE WAR ROOM (1993) and DOWN FROM THE MOUNTAIN (2000). Jehane Noujaim began her career as a photographer and filmmaker in Cairo, Egypt, before forming her own film company. She has collaborated with Hegedus and Pennebaker on ONLY THE STRONG SURVIVE (2002), DOWN FROM THE MOUNTAIN, and STARTUP.COM.
