The Writers Institute and FENCE/Fence Books shared a table as one of over 500 exhibitors at AWP's Bookfair.
Reception
The Writers Institute, New York State Council on the Arts, New York Center for Independent Publishing, New Directions Publishing, and FENCE/Fence Books co-sponsored a reception during the AWP conference. Writers, aspiring writer, and readers were invited to join us for casual conversation with a variety of authors who participated in the AWP conference events.
Reading and Discussion
Novelists Russell Banks and William Kennedy read from their work and discussed how the landscapes of New York State have served as inspiration for their writing.

Novelist William Kennedy and Alice McDermott read from their work and signed copies of their books.
Panel Discussion
Institute/UAlbany writing faculty Lydia Davis, William Kennedy, James Lasdun, Lynne Tillman, and Rebecca Wolff participated in a panel discussion on language and place in their writing. Institute Director Donald Faulkner moderated the discussion.
