SCOPE:
Contains the correspondence and papers of John Anderson, 1768-1835; of his sons John Byars Anderson, 1817-1897, and William C. Anderson, 1804-1870; and of his grandson, John Alexander Anderson, 1834-1892. These men served as Presbyterian clergymen, educators, and politicians in several midwestern states, primarily in Kansas, and their papers and correspondence illustrate the development of the United States in the nineteenth century. John Byars Anderson and William C. Anderson were also involved in the Civil War, the former as a military superintendent of railroads and the latter as a chaplain.
