SCOPE:
Contains the documents, correspondence, and diaries of Landon Carter, 1710-1778, and his son Robert Wormeley Carter, 1734-1798, both Virginia planters and politicians. Landon Carter was a member of the Virginia House of Burgesses from 1752-1768, and a member of the Committee of Correspondence in 1759. Robert Wormeley Carter was a member of the House of Burgesses from 1769-1776, resigned to fight in the Revolutionary War, and served in the Virginia House of Delegates in 1779 and 1781-82. Both corresponded with members of the Lee family, and others active in Virginia politics.
