SCOPE:
Miles Hanley, as part of a W.P.A. project, collected "from about 140 volumes of English and American poetry those rimes which would be useful in indicating English pronunciation in the 16th through 18th Centuries". He died before the project was finished; this collection reproduces his unedited material, consisting of some 100,000 three inch by five inch cards containing rhyme evidence for some 35,000 words.
ARRANGEMENT:
American words are listed in the first half, English in the second. Within each group words are listed alphabetically, with their usage given in chronological order.
FINDING AIDS:
The alphabetical sequence is indicated in eye-legible form on each fiche.
