      SCOPE:

            This set reproduces interviews with about 2,000 former slaves recorded by the Federal Writers Project, part of the Work Projects Administration, from 1936 to 1938. The former slaves were asked about their housing, their parents, the type of work they did, the food and medical care provided, their entertainment, games, songs, and stories; their answers are usually recorded in their own words.
