Edelmira Reynoso currently is a Ph.D. candidate working on her dissertation “Mexican American Professionals: An Oxymoronic Concept or a New Reality” which applies a critical demography perspective to an understudied population. Her research interest is in the area of Latino Sociology with an emphasis on demography, especially in the topic of immigration, and race and ethnicity. Currently she is collaborating on a couple of papers with members of the Critical Demography Project and is the Bilingual Coordinator for the Capitalize on Community Project. Besides being involved in research projects Edelmira also has the opportunity to put into practice her sociological training as Project Associate for the Community Outreach and Information Dissemination which is one of five cores of the Center of Elimination in Minority Health Disparities (CEMHD). During the past two years she has been working with community-based organizations serving minority populations and the healthcare community with the goal to improve lines of communication about health information and research for the minority communities of the Capital Region and their health care providers. She also has experience teaching upper level and required undergraduate courses. In the past she has taught Sociology of Work and Statistics for Sociologists. She came to UAlbany from the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB) where she doubled major in Sociology and Spanish. During her last two years at UCSB she was member of the Minority though School Transformation Program (MOST) part of the American Sociological Association (ASA) and was able to work on her own research project that quantitatively investigated gender inequality in the workforce among Chicano/Latinos.
