Dear Milne Alumni and Supporters,

* Sad News

LOTSA' GOOD NEWS!

* Judy Jenkins Young, '56, notes that her grandson, T.C. Metivier, has published the second book in his fantasy series. The first was Vale of Darkness; the new book is Chains of Mist, with the third now in progress. His website is tcmetivier with much info, and books are available through Amazon.

* Ginnah Howard, '57, has been selected as the MacDowell Poetry Fellow for 2015-2016, special recognition for the collection she worked on during her October residency. Each artist granted a fellowship is given a studio for a month or two to work without interruption. This is completely free and granted on the basis of the submission of work. In the evenings, residents can join the other 24 fellows for dinner at Colony Hall. The Colony even delivers a lunch basket each day to hang on the door of the studio. The MacDowell Colony, founded in 1907, is the oldest artists' colony in the United States. It was awarded the National Medal of Arts from President Clinton in 1997 for nurturing some of the century's finest artists. For more information, visit their website.

* Dr. Alan Markowitz, '61, received the Distinguished Physician Award from University Hospitals last September. He's the Chief Surgeon, Harrington Heart and Vascular Institute, at University Hospitals-Case Western Reserve, and occupies the Dolly Haugh Chair in Valvular Heart Surgery. He still operates every day, has a Department of six adult cardiac surgeons, is engaged in numerous clinical trials, and recently reached over 500 aortic valves implanted by catheter. You can watch "Dr. Alan" speak about the University Hospital Heart Valve Center here.

* Facelift in a bottle? "First the science. The research was led by Robert Langer, a prolific inventor who heads a biological engineering lab at MIT." Click here to learn more about yet another invention by Robert ("Bob") Langer, '66. Bob was called the "Father of Invention" in a March 1, 2013, interview on Northeast Public Radio. According to the following link, "Biotech pioneer Robert Langer has over 800 patents to his name and has launched two dozen companies, which develop everything from tumor-fighting nanoparticles to anti-frizz hair products. Yet Langer says his proudest accomplishment is teaching some 500 students and post-docs, now professors and start-up leaders themselves." Click here to read the transcript of this interview.
