GOOD NEWS!

The PhotoCenter of Troy, located at 404 River Street, is featuring the photographic work of John Dillon, '53, in their gallery. The opening reception was Friday, June 12th, from 5 to 9 p.m., and the exhibit will continue until July 26th. (For further information, see the link below.)

"John Dillon has been one of the region’s foremost photojournalists, although his byline is not usually seen in our area publications. Over the past four decades, Mr. Dillon has done assignment work for major newspapers: the New York Times, USA Today, Miami Herald, Irish Echo, The Evangelist, Albany Times Union, and, most recently, New York Daily News to name a few. He has been an assignment photographer for major news agencies, United Press International, Reuters, Associated Press, and Catholic News Service."

On the Scene: A Life of Photojournalism consists of a "retrospective of works from the highs and lows of state politics and politicians. From Carey to Pataki, the Cuomos and the convicts, John has been there with his camera to capture the moment and personalities. The exhibit is accompanied by the vintage equipment once used to send timely images to the front pages of your morning newspaper." (From http://photocentertroy.org/exhibits-calls/exhibits.html, scrolling down the page for further information.)

According to John, "Strange about the photography side of my life (the other was law enforcement). When I was a kid and heard on the radio that WW2 had started, I was petrified and was certain that everything would end soon. Then as it went on, I got interested in looking at pictures in the newspapers and magazines. I was determined to become a photographer, but my family told me that a poor Irish kid could not ever possibly become a photojournalist. Since then I have been published in newspapers and magazines throughout the world and have shot assignments for the big three news-picture agencies -- not bad for a poor Irish kid! My family was astounded to see what I accomplished over the years." Congratulations, John!

We have discovered more literary talent among the Class of '56! Judy JENKINS Young's grandson is now a published author. His name is T.C. Metivier, and his Fantasy Book entitled Veil Of Darkness has a synopsis to be viewed on Grimoirebooks.net. Simply click on "Authors," then "T.C. Metivier." It will be out in paper on July 1st. Congratulations T.C. and proud Grandmother!

I recently had the pleasure of having lunch with Jan Arnold, '61, who was in town from California, and Lucinda Coffin Huggins, a '61 classmate until Shaker High School opened. Mini-reunions are such fun because you have the opportunity to really "talk" to each other!

During the past month, my husband and I also had the opportunity to meet Chuck Eson, '64, and "Coach" Bob Lewis for an enjoyable lunch. Bob said that it's always great to see Milne alumni because "you make me feel young"! I would encourage Milne alumni to get together to share memories and catch up on each other's lives even if the groups are small. Please let me know if you have any mini-reunion information or other good news to share.
