GOOD NEWS!

From Andy Stokes, '57: The front page of the Sunday, April 28, edition of the Albany Times Union has in interesting article captioned "Rescuing pieces of a legacy" that recounts the efforts of a man trying to save a former Shaker farmhouse dating to the 1760s that exists in the heart of Loudonville just off Osborne Road a short way on Upper Loudon Road. In 1927, a John H. Male bought the farm from the Shakers, and his granddaughter, Carolyn Male, '57, was mentioned as having been the last family member to live in the old house. Carolyn is noted in the article as having been a College of Saint Rose biologist famous for developing more than 100 varieties of heirloom tomatoes seeded in greenhouses on the property. Andy thought the article might be of interest to other alums since Carolyn is notable for her contributions. The article is available on pressreader.com (Membership to pressreader.com is free if you're asked to join in order to read the article.)

From Catherine Scott, '59: "I've had the great privilege of moving to France's southwest coast near my daughter and family in 2018. I'd hoped Ruth Wasley's French classes would help, but French isn't kicking in like it did in '57-'58! I ride my bike to the sea each day, rewrite my book called Listening, and get marching orders from God. A sweet view - Bonjour and hugs to you all!"

"Robert Langer ['66] wins 2019 Dreyfus Prize for Chemistry in Support of Human Health"! According to Wikipedia.org, "Langer is widely regarded for his contributions to medicine and biotechnology. He is considered a pioneer of many new technologies, including controlled release systems and transdermal delivery systems, which allow the administration of drugs or extraction of analytes from the body through the skin without needles or other invasive methods." You might enjoy reading his bio (including photos) here. Congratulations, Bob!
