REMEMBERING JUDY (JOHNSON) JENSON, '60
From Joyce (Johnson) Snell, '61:
Judy Johnson, 82, passed away on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, at the Upper Eastside Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in New York City.
She was born in Albany, New York. Judy was the daughter of the late Franklin W. and Dorthy M. Johnson. She is survived by her sister, Joyce Johnson Snell, Class of 1961, who resides in the Boston, Massachusetts, area along with her two grown children, Jeffrey Snell and Jenny Love Snell. They each have three children.
Judy graduated from the Milne School in 1960 and the Leland Powers School of Radio, Theatre, and Television in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1962. She spent her entire career in the New York theatre scene including Broadway, TV Serials, and Commercials. She was well known in her neighborhood at 157 East 72nd Street where she had an apartment for over 50 years.
Most of her childhood involved Teenage Barn, a local TV program in Albany, New York, where she did record pantomimes until she began to sing. She loved performing.
Some of her credits included The Patty Duke Show, The Carol Burnett revue, Hello Dolly, and Take Her She’s Mine. She even included Mike, her beautiful Black and White German Shepherd mix, in her commercials. Her other dogs included Lucy, Jacque. and Winston.
A Celebration of Life graveside service/reception was held on Saturday, June 29, 2024, at The Graceland Cemetery in Albany, New York, where her nephew Rev. Jeffrey Snell, Minister of the First Parish Church in Weston, Massachusetts, officiated at the service, and her sister, Joyce Johnson Snell, delivered the Eulogy. There will be a follow-up memorial service and celebration of Judy’s life in November in New York City. |
