CLASS OF 1973 REUNION
From Peter Bulger Class Contact
for the Class of '73:
"The Class of '73 held its 35th reunion with three
events.
"On Friday, September 12th, friends and members played
golf at the Orchard Creek Golf Club. It rained but all had a
great time.
"Friday evening, the class and other Milne Alum and friends
met in downtown Albany. In total, there were about 70 reveling in
the occasion. Many in the group moved from Jillian's to the
Fountain on New Scotland.
"The final event was a cocktail [party] and dinner at the
Hudson Harbor restaurant in downtown Albany. About 40 Alum and
guests reminisced about old times. There was even conversation of
the School mascot ('Red Raider'- a bear) and how in 1968
the student council almost voted to replace the bear with the
saluki. Look that one up. An informal hand count called for
another gathering 5 years from now."
It sure sounds as though the Class of '73 knows how to
party!
But . . . in May I asked:
"Was the mascot's
name always 'Happy'?" And now I'm seeing a
reference to "Red Raider." Can anyone provide further
information regarding the history of the Milne
mascot?
FACEBOOK GROUP FOR MILNE ALUMNI
For some time I have been thinking
about setting up a Facebook Group for Milne School Alumni but
have never gotten around to doing so. After learning that Randi
Greenberg Barrell, '73, had set up a Facebook Group for her
class, I decided that if she can do it, so can I! So there
is now a Milne School Alumni Facebook Group. See Facebook. (Thanks, Randi, for
giving me a push in the right direction!)
If you are not familiar with Facebook, it is a website that is
used for social networking. It's somewhat like Classmates in
the sense that you can contact other Facebook members without
having to know their email addresses. Facebook started with
college students, but now there are lots of people of all ages
participating. It's a great place to post information and to
communicate with one another and is quite intuitive and easy to
navigate.
The Milne School Alumni Group is private; i.e., only people that
are "approved" can see the group. You can access it
yourself by searching for "Milne School Alumni" on
Facebook (if you have an account), or you can send me your email
address and I will send you an "invitation" to join the
group.
GOOD STUFF!
Born to Alexis Cohen Gantsoudes
and George Gantsoudes on July 3, 2008,
a son, Isaac James Gantsoudes, 7 pounds 4 ounces.
"Papa" is Artie Cohen,
Class of '67. Congratulations, Artie!
Joan Martens Frumkin, Class
Contact for the Class of '48, asked her classmates for
contributions to the Newsletter. Here's her first
response:
Elaine and Bill deProsse, Class of '48, have both been
retired for many years now, after each had a 30-year career with
the Federal government. They have been traveling extensively to
various and far-flung parts of the planet. This past summer they
explored the Norway fjords and are happy to report that the
Vikings are being very peaceful. They are living in Concord, CA,
and enjoying their three children and five grandchildren. During
the last 21 years, Bill has held about every position in the Boy
Scouts, both at the troop and council level. Elaine has been a
soloist in the church choir for many years, and even sang at
Carnegie Hall last year.
Keep the "Good Stuff"
coming!
