MILNE TROPHIES UPDATE

The trophies that are available have been professionally photographed by Stephanie Snyder, UAlbany Alumni Association Communications & Marketing Strategist. These photographs will soon be included on the UAlbany Milne School Digital Collections web page, where we have already posted the scanned versions of our yearbooks, newspapers, and other Milne publications, in addition to photographs of the murals and friezes located in the former Milne library, Milne 200 (now known as the Theodore H. Fossieck Milne Alumni Room). Mark Wolfe, Curator of Digital Collections for UAlbany, is in the process of uploading the trophy photos with information including year, sport, and description. I will let you know when that process has been completed so that you will be able to view the trophies. At that time, Milne Alumni will have an opportunity to own one or more of these trophies. The condition of this memorabilia varies, so we will be happy to provide the condition of any trophy you might like to have. Again, stay tuned....

CLASS OF '64 REUNION

Chuck Eson, '64 has announced that the Class of '64 will hold its 55th-year reunion September 7-8, 2019.

ALUMNI NEWS

From Frank Ward, '56: "I have been adopted into the Lakota Native American tribe and given a warrior name. This is quite an honor and now allows me to claim Sitting Bull and others as ancestors by adoption. Kimberly Yellow Robe, who had adopted me as her older brother, came to know me when I became a national officer (Parliamentarian) of the Social Security's American Indian and Alaska Native Advisory Council in 2015. I am just finishing a two-year term as its national Chair. I believe adoptions like mine are rare. I will be going to the Dakotas for the ceremony, date yet to be determined."

Frank Ward would be interested in obtaining a (satin) basketball uniform for any year after 1952.

From Dan Brown, '57: Bob Horn, '57, recently sent Dan a favorite sports-related memory from his days at Milne. Dan's reaction was this: "My idea is that perhaps you might invite Milnites to submit stories or remembrances about sports at Milne for publication in the monthly newsletter. I know Milne didn't have much but seem to remember their basketball and baseball teams often played well. Any memories of time at Milne would be welcome."

Thanks, Dan! Perhaps your invitation will result in some interesting stories!

Anita Harris, '66, is one of 80 journalists whose work was selected for publication in the current Nieman Reports in honor of the 80th anniversay of the Nieman Foundation at Harvard. Anita, now an author and communications consultant, worked in print, radio, and television before spending a year as a Nieman Fellow in 1981. In her article, she writes about how a chance viewing of the Edward R. Murrow documentary, Harvest of Shame, motivated her to become a journalist and where that led. (She says she has not quit journalism; she blogs at http://newcambridgeobserver.com.)
