Course Description:

This course as its name indicates is a survey of Calculus of one and several variables. We will learn basic properties of functions, and some special functions like the exponential and the logarithms, and trigonometric functions like $\sin$ and $\cos$. We will learn about the derivative and its properties, the integral and its properties and applications to real life problems. And lastly, we will learn about functions of several varialbes and their partial derivaties and multiple integrals. The program is ambitious but with dedication and some good disposition, we'll get through it. The book comes with an on--line homework and quizzes system. We will be using it extensively. There is going to be homework for each unit and on--line quizzes every week.

Grading: Your grade will be based on 4 in-class exams (20\% each), weakly quizzes (10 %), and on--line homework (10 %).
Attendance is mandatory. You can miss up to 3 classes without consecuences. After missing 4 classes your grade will decrease by 20% and after the 5th absence you fail the class.

It is your responsibility to be aware of the dates of the exams and the content and due date of assignments. If you miss a class, it is your responsibility to be aware of the topics discussed during that class, the assigned homework and the and the possibly given assignment. There is no reason to miss an exam other than getting sick (bring note from doctor), being on a team that has a game at the same time an exam is given (bring a note from your coach), or a death or serious illness in your family. In the event you can not attend an exam, I require you to let me know in advance. You can call me at my office at 442-4641 (leave a message if I'm not in), send me e-mail ([email protected]), stop by my office (leave a not if I' not in). There is no reason why you can not communicate with me through one of these methods. If you miss an exam and you don't notify me in advance, you'll receive the grade of 0 for that test.
