Independent Study Project Policy
Students interested in pursuing independent study projects in the areas of my expertise should submit a project proposal. The proposal should be submitted by the end of the semester preceding the semester in which the independent project is to take place. Students should discuss the project with me before submitting a proposal.
The project proposal is composed of four parts: tentative title, research question, abstract and tentative bibliography. Abstracts can be best conceived of as hypotheses or potential answers to questions that you pose to yourself about the topic that you have chosen. The abstract should be about 100-150 words. The bibliography is comprised of the full references of the books, articles, web resources, etc. that you have taken a look at and consider potentially useful to your research project.
Independent study projects are generally not to be used to replace regularly
offered classes.
