3-5 Page Research Paper
A 3-5 page research paper that includes at least three sources from an
approved annotated bibliography is due on the last day of class. MLA
format is required, particularly in regard to citing sources (works cited
and in-text citations). Failure to adhere to MLA citation guidelines
will adversely affect the grade for the paper.
The very nature of a research paper is to formulate a sort of argument -
thesis, actually. And, of course, it relies heavily on research!
Having successfully completed the annotated bibliography entails having done
the research for this paper. The rest of the paper involves
formulating a thesis from the raw material you gathered in your research and
arranging that material in a logical way so as to prove the thesis.
This research paper need not be argumentative (that isn't what "a sort of
argument" means at all). Rather, it should make an assertion, and that
assertion should be supported by evidence from articles in your annotated
bibliography. However, students may find that some of the theses of
articles that they have read are not accurate. If this is the case,
then you may indeed wish to present a case which does conflict with one or
more of the articles in your annotated bibliography (i.e., literally
argumentative). This strategy works particularly well when two or more
of the articles in your bibliography disagree with each other. In your
research paper, you should explain both arguments but take a stand behind
one or the other (or a third, as the case may be).
Whatever you choose to write about, you must meaningfully address ideas
presented in at least three of the five articles reviewed in your annotated
bibliography. Failure to do so will adversely affect your grade.
No late papers will be accepted.
