As the school year closes,  I wanted to take a moment to reflect on my first year as a graduate student at the University at Albany. I am Aziza Alimardonova, proudly representing sunny Tajikistan, carrying its warmth and brightness with me always.

Thanks to the prestigious Presidential Scholarship, awarded by the Tajik government, I have the privilege of studying abroad in the U.S. and pursuing my master’s degree in economics. This scholarship opens doors for talented students, allowing them to study at top universities, broaden their horizons, and bring valuable skills back home to contribute to their nation's prosperity. This initiative is among the finest in the sphere of education as it helps keep talented individuals connected to their homeland while they gain a global experience

Studying abroad wasn't just about classes for me; it was about experiencing new things and meeting people from different backgrounds. America's mix of cultures fascinated me, and I have found a welcoming community here. What I love most about UAlbany is its diversity, inclusivity, and vibrant campus life. I have made friends from all over the world and have felt supported. Even though I am far from home, I have never felt alone.

This year has taught me that with hard work, dreams can indeed become a reality. It has been an incredible journey, and I'm excited to see where life takes me next.
