Autism Graduate Certificate Program
The Certificate of Graduate Studies in Autism effectively prepares participants for understanding and addressing the needs of individuals with autism spectrum disorders across the lifespan and in varied contexts including general and special education classrooms and community settings. The program is a three-course sequence, which focuses on the characteristics of autism spectrum disorders and the science of behavior.
The Certificate of Graduate Studies in Autism advances individuals in their field and supports them to enhance knowledge, gain skills through hands-on learning, promote quality programs for individuals with autism, and develop professionally.
UAlbany is dedicated to preparing highly effective professionals. To achieve this goal, the Certificate of Graduate Studies in Autism program combines engaging in-classroom learning and direct hands on experience in the field.
Interactive classes are taught by experienced faculty. Classroom coursework is presented concurrently with field experience so students can complete the Autism CGS in as little as 2 semesters. This program is available online.
Outcomes / Career:
CGS in Autism graduates are found both in and out of the classroom, working in a number of education-focused positions, general education, special education, social work, counseling, behavior specialist, related-service, care and service coordination, program management.
Upon successful completion of the program, students may partially meet the education and supervised experience requirements necessary for admission to the licensing examination for Certified Behavior Analyst Assistant (CBAA) with the NYS Education Department. The institution has not made a determination regarding the educational requirements for any other state in regards to licensing requirements or eligibility.

Psy 519 (3) Autism I: Introduction to the Science of Behavior and Applied Behavior Analysis
Psy 520 (3) Autism II: Introduction to Intervention
Psy 521 (3) Autism III: Practicum in Intervention
This program is not eligible for federal financial aid.
Please note: This program requires an internship, field experience, study abroad component, or clinical experience requirement. Students who have previously been convicted of a felony are advised that their prior criminal history may impede their ability to complete the requirements of certain academic programs and/or to meet licensure requirements for certain professions.
