The Great Dane Project!
The Great Dane Project is an initiative designed to celebrate our University pride by converting 4 foot tall, 60 lb. fiberglass Great Danes into unique works of art that reflect the spirit of the University at Albany community. Nineteen Great Dane statues have been graciously donated by University Auxiliary Services. Eighteen Great Danes were “adopted” by various campus entities, listed below. The nineteenth was reserved as the “Community Dane” in honor of our 19th President, Robert J. Jones. The “Community Dane” was decorated on September 26th with thumb prints added by the University President, students, faculty, and staff throughout the “We are UAlbany” event.
All Danes are available for viewing for the remainder of the semester in the Science Library.

How to Submit a Proposal?

Proposals should be submitted via “The Great Dane
Project Proposal Submission Form” located at
www.MyInvolvement.org on the Student Involvement &
Leadership page, also found
here.
You will need your UAlbany net ID and password to login and view this form.

The deadline for submission is Wednesday,
September 4, 2013 at 5pm. .

You may submit a proposal on behalf of your group
(for example, Student Association, Physics Department)
or you can submit on your own behalf.

What is the Selection Process?

All design submissions will be reviewed by the Great
Dane Project Committee, comprised of UAlbany students
and staff members. This group will select the top 18
designs and initiate the “adoption” process with the
selected designers.

Preference in design selection will be given to those
submissions that reflect community partnerships and
collaborations that clearly communicate the values of
the University at Albany and/or express UAlbany pride.

Selected designers will be notified on September 12,
2013 and will be allowed to pick up their Great Dane on
this date to begin decoration.

Final decoration of the Great Danes will take place by
the Campus Center small fountain on September 26th from Noon until 4:00pm.

Design Resources
It is the responsibility of the Great Dane selected adoptees to provide the necessary supplies (paint, brushes, props, ect.) needed to decorate their Dane.
The manufacturer of the Great Dane statues is
CowPainters.
Cowpainters provided two design resources to assist in
developing your creation, see below. These resources
provide guidelines for the type of paint and props that
work best with the Great Dane statue material.
