University at Albany Professor of Photography Phyllis Galembo has been awarded a John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Fellowship for 2014. Galembo is among 178 scholars, artists and scientists honored from a pool of almost 3,000 applicants across the U.S. and Canada.

Nature: Widespread Decline in Congo Rainforest Greenness Might Reflect Long-Term Drying Trend
A new study to be published in the May 8 issue of Nature points to a widespread decline in vegetation greenness and water content in the Congolese rainforest. The study, led by UAlbany Associate Professor Liming Zhou, found an extensive decline in satellite-detected forest greenness in the Congolese forests in the past 10-13 years. -

University at Albany epidemiologist Michael Bloom and three fellow researchers have released a study on how the “good cholesterol” may play a role within the ovarian follicle in pre-programming an egg for successful pregnancy or failure.
