Expectant Mothers Take Note: Pregnancy Food Cravings May Be Psychological
UAlbany researcher Julia Hormes and graduate student Natalia Orloff examined the cause of pregnancy food cravings. Though reports have shown a high number of pregnant women experience food cravings, the study found little evidence of craved foods balancing nutritional deficiencies. Instead, it suggests cravings to be psychological. -

UAlbany Students Become First American Students to Restore Ancient Roman Mosaic in Serbia
Jordan Scott and Lynne Merrihew, two University at Albany undergrads from the Department of Art and Art History, traveled to Serbia this summer to work on a pilot internship restoring mosaic pavements from the Sirmium Roman Imperial Palace in the historic town of Sremska Mitrovica.

Field Hockey Sends UAlbany to its First Final Four Appearance in School History
The University at Albany field hockey team (20-3) rewrote history books, defeating No. 2 Maryland 2-1 to advance to the NCAA Tournament Semifinals. The victory earned UAlbany its first trip to a Division I Final Four in school history. -

UAlbany, UUP Albany Win Joint Labor-Management Grant for Pilot Faculty Mentoring Program
The University at Albany and the UAlbany chapter of United University Professions recently received a grant from the statewide UUP Joint Labor Management Committee. The grant, matched by UAlbany’s Office of the Provost, allows two tenure-track assistant professors to participate in a faculty mentoring/success program in spring 2015.

UAlbany to Host First Data Breach Research Laboratory
The School of Business is named host of a new research laboratory to develop digital forensic tools for protecting information after data breaches. Computer forensic leader The ARC Group of N.Y. donates software and services valued at more than $500,000 to support the critical endeavor, led by UAlbany Associate Professor Sanjay Goel.
