Master of Fine Arts Thesis Exhibition Opens at University Art Museum

Emerging artists receive their first opportunity to debut their work within the larger art world and also offer area viewers a window into contemporary issues in the visual arts when the Spring 2007 Master of Fine Arts Thesis Exhibition exhibit opens May 4 at the University Art Museum.
The exhibit runs through May 8 and then May 10 - 20. A special opening reception for the M.F.A. students - Justin Baker, Patrick Cuffe, Ben Godward, Jason Martinez, Emily Rauch, and James A. Van Duyne - will be held on Friday, May 11, from 5 to 7 p.m.
The M.F.A. artists in the exhibition have just completed the Department of Art's three-year, 60 credit-hour program of intensive training and study in contemporary fine art practices. At the end of these studies, candidates are required to exhibit a cohesive body of their work.
"This work forms the core of the M.F.A. candidates' visual thesis and demonstrates the vigor and expertise with which these emerging artists explore their respective choice of mediums," said Corinna Ripps Schaming, associate director of the Art Museum. "For the artists, the exhibition is an important milestone."
Also featured in the exhibition is the work of Master of Arts candidate Lisa Porto. The M.A. degree is a 30 credit-hour graduate program in studio art.
