Wittner Co-edits Peace Action
Professor Larry Wittner of the Department of History is the co-editor of a new book Peace Action: Past, Present, and Future (Paradigm Publishers). The book is a collection of short essays written by prominent leaders and supporters of Peace Action (America's largest peace organization) and its two predecessors, the National Committee for a Sane Nuclear Policy (SANE), and the Nuclear Weapons Freeze Campaign. Wittner's co-editor was Glen Harold Stassen (professor of Christian ethics at Fuller Theological Seminary). U.S. Congresswoman Barbara Lee (co-chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus) wrote the introduction. The book is the first to survey the work of the three largest peace organizations in modern American history. It is also part of Peace Action's 50th anniversary celebrations this year (based on the founding of SANE in 1957), which include an Oct. 22 event at the historic Alhambra Ballroom in Harlem.
