Hoff Gives Testimony on Primary Care Reform
Timothy J. Hoff, associate professor of
Health Policy and Management in the School
of Public Health, gave testimony in front of
the New York State Assembly Committee on
Health on Oct. 29 at the Primary Care Reform
in NYS hearing.
His testimony focused on the need to make
primary care a more attractive career option
for young doctors, and the implementation of
a "medical home" model in a primary care
system that is currently unable to support
that model to the fullest form.
Hoff also presented a case for primary care
reform in New York State that would include
a multi-faceted strategy. He also
discussed evaluating the implementation of a
medical home concept as part of primary care
reform. "Specifically, there is a need
to evaluate the cost-benefit of paying for
additional primary care-related services,
especially in relation to how those
additional services do or do not decrease
expenditures in other parts of the system,
particularly high-cost specialty care," said
Hoff.
Hoff is an expert on the physician
workforce, health care reform, health care
quality, newborn screening, patient safety,
and primary care. He is currently writing a
book on primary care work and provided
information on getting more medical students
to pursue careers in primary care.
