ALBANY, N.Y. (October 14, 2005) -- UAlbany Friends of the Libraries will sponsor a trip to the Olana State Historic Site and Cedar Grove on October 26, 2005. The trip will include guided tours and a buffet lunch at Kozel's at nearby Ghent. Reservations are due by October 21.
Thomas Cole, founder of the Hudson River School, arrived at the Catskill Mountains in 1825. His home at Cedar Grove, Catskill, N.Y. is now an affiliate of the National Park Service. One of Cole's students, Frederic Edwin Church, created Olana, one of the most famous of the Hudson River School of artists. The villa is the best known element of Olana; it overlooks the Hudson. The state historic site is one of the few intact artist's home, studio, and estate complexes in the US. Olana was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1968.
The Friends' tour will include travel by an air-conditioned bus, lunch, plus tour guides. The bus will depart from the top of Collins Circle (UAlbany's uptown campus) at 8:45 a.m. The cost per person is $60. For further information about parking on campus and to reserve a seat, please contact Paul Ward at (518) 640-9730 or [email protected] by October 21.
