UAlbany and Ordway Research Institute Announce Agreement to Enhance Region's Research Profile

ALBANY, N.Y. (October 3, 2005) -- The University at Albany and the Ordway Research Institute announced today a collaborative agreement that will enhance biotechnology and life science research at both institutions and in Tech Valley. The agreement provides for the recruitment of well established, senior researchers who are engaged in high profile research programs.

"This is just the beginning of a string of many exciting announcements regarding the growth of the region's research profile," said UAlbany President Kermit L. Hall. "The University and the Capital Region are very fortunate to have such a visionary research institute in its midst. We look forward to a very long and thriving relationship with Ordway."

The agreement will establish magnet research programs in the life sciences. The University at Albany and the Ordway Research Institute have agreed to commit the necessary resources to recruit top researchers.

"The University at Albany, with its state of the art facilities and growing biotechnology and genomics research enterprise is an ideal partner."

The two organizations are proceeding with the faculty search process and expect to announce the first faculty researcher within the next several months. The institutions agree that recruitment must complement existing research strengths in the scientific community and must emphasize entrepreneurship through translational research.
