UAlbany "Roads Scholar Tour" Heads to Long Island
Second annual road tour with UAlbany president and faculty includes stops at
Jones Beach and the offices of Robert Moses, Newsday

ALBANY, N.Y. (June 5, 2006) -- University at Albany President Kermit L. Hall, UAlbany faculty and staff will board a bus early Tuesday morning, June 6, to take a two-day tour of Long Island. Faculty will interact with colleagues from both Nassau Community College and Smithtown High School, attend a reception for students who will be entering UAlbany in the fall at Port Jefferson, tour Jones Beach and learn about New York master builder Robert Moses, and visit with editors and reporters at Newsday. The group will also visit the historic village of Freeport, as well as Farmingdale State University as part of their trip.

The trip offers a chance for an exchange of ideas and goals with community members from one of UAlbany's highest regional populations, Long Island. Some 25 percent of UAlbany students come from Long Island.

The 2005 Roads Scholar Tour was a single day event in which new UAlbany faculty had an opportunity to learn about their community through visits to Schenectady High School, the State Capital and the Times Union.

"The 'Roads Scholar Tour' is an opportunity to orient our new faculty to New York State while affirming UAlbany's priority for academics, teaching and our community," said President Hall.
