UAlbany Celebrates 35 Years
5th annual
student conference commences
year-long celebration of department
ALBANY, N.Y. (November 29, 2006) --
The University at Albany's
Department of Women's Studies will
host The 5th Annual Women's Studies
Student Conference with the theme
"Looking Back, Moving Forward:
Celebrating 35 Years of Women's
Studies." The event marks the launch
of a year-long celebration of the
department, including a faculty
exhibit of the department's history
through the College of Arts and
Sciences, and a Women's History
Month lecture by renowned feminist
scholar Beverly Guy-Sheftall, in the
spring of 2007.

ALBANY, N.Y. (November 15, 2006) --
As the nation confronts a shortage
of nurses that is predicted to grow
with the retirement of baby boomers,
a new report by the Center for
Health Workforce Studies at the
University at Albany's School of
Public Health finds that New
Hampshire has the most registered
nurses (RNs) per capita in the
United States, with 1,283 RNs per
100,000 population.

Libraries Acquire Ronald B. Stafford
Papers
M.E. Grenander Department of Special
Collections and Archives adds the
papers of a state senator to its
collection
ALBANY, N.Y. (November 8, 2006) --
Brian Keough, head of the University
at Albany's M.E. Grenander Special
Collections and Archives, today
announced the acquisition of the
Ronald B. Stafford Papers,
approximately 225 cubic feet of
material documenting Stafford's 40
years in the New York State Senate
and in public life.

University at Albany Opens Emeritus
Center
ALBANY, N.Y. (November 1, 2006) --
University at Albany Officer in
Charge Susan Herbst along with
distinguished colleagues officially
opened the University's new Emeritus
Center today. The center will serve
as a gathering place for UAlbany
retired faculty and professionals
and is designed to facilitate and
promote interdisciplinary
scholarship.

SEFCU and UAlbany Forge a 10-Year
Partnership
ALBANY, N.Y. (November 1, 2006) --
SEFCU, the largest credit union in
the Capital Region, and the
University at Albany today announced
a $2.75 million commitment to name
the university's Recreation and
Convocation Center, in addition to
promotional opportunities, for a 10-year period. The facility, to be
known as the SEFCU Arena, is the
home for UAlbany's men's and women's
basketball teams.
