About NERFI
The University at Albany's annual spring
campus clean up began with 100 volunteers in
1997 and has grown to over 500 volunteers
pitching in time and energy to beautify the
campus and enjoy camaraderie and morale
building in the fresh air. For this tenth
anniversary, the focus shifts to the midtown
section of the city surrounding Alumni Quad
and UAlbany's downtown campus where
participants will rake, hoe, plant, and sod
while beautifying the campus community for
Commencement and key signature events.
In 2005, volunteers on the uptown campus placed 120 yards of mulch, spread 60 yards of topsoil, and spread and compacted 3 tons of stone dust in sub-base preparation of a new walk and gazebo area. In addition, they rolled out 2 thousand feet of new sod, raked and collected 150 yards of leaves and debris, and restriped 300 parking spaces in the Dutch Quad student parking lot. For the crowning touch, they planted 100 flats of pansies, 25 forsythia bushes, and six flowering trees.
